Amy Winehouse

Golden performance from Grammy Award Winner, Amy Winehouse! performing "Rehab" for her American television debut on Late Show with David Letterman. Setting new trends, this chick really knows how to pull things off, I like her style!

"JUMP" The new Honda TVC

I hate heights, I really Do! But when I saw this ad, it made me love free falling! This is one awesome TVC from Honda under its "Difficult Is Worth Doing" Campaign, made by 4Creative. It was aired in the UK broad casted live via Channel 4. Though it's not the first "live" commercial in TV history but this is friggin' amazing! Hmmm, I wonder what would the competitors do...

Wieden + Kennedy chose skydiving formations for the accord launch campaign because of their delicate precision moves in the air. Human engineering. A metaphor for the Honda engineers' work on the ground.

Cool illustrations

Okay, now here's a little something for you artists out there, I stumbled into these pretty cool illustrations, a combination of traditional and digital, Nice treatment and composition! I better get my sketch book and sharpen my pencil! Time for some serious drawings, Get inspired!

World's Biggest Self Portrait

Check this story out, Erik Nordenankar, who wanted to make the biggest drawing in the world (very brave idea, huh?!) who took a suitcase with a GPS tracking device, gave exact instructions to DHL of where to ship this suitcase and in what order. By tracking the device through 62 countries and six continents and recording the travel route on the map Erik made a self portrait of himself! Now isn't that a crazy stunt?

Erik claimed it would be an art project, his graduation project indeed. It's kinda hard to believe it and suspected it to be one of the coolest digital campaigns/virals of our time. Done by DHL. A shame that DHL didn't sponsor him to do it for real. Kudos to Erik for the idea and for the very convincing fiction.

The extinct Philippine script (Babay, Baybayin!)

In 1571, the Spaniards found the people in Manila and other places writing on bamboo and specially prepared palm leaves using knives and styli. They were using the ancient Tagalog script which had 17 basic symbols, three of which were the vowels a, i, and u. Each basic consonantal symbol had the inherent a sound: ka, ga, nga, ta, da, na, pa, ba, ma, ya, la, wa, sa, and ha.

A diacritical mark called kudlit modified the sound of the symbol. The kudlit could be a dot, a short line, or even an arrowhead. When placed above the symbol, it changed the inherent sound of the symbol from a to i; placed below, the sound became u. Thus a ba with a kudlit placed above became a bi; if the kudlit was placed below, the symbol became a bu.

It was a simple and elegant system that was called baybayin. In 1914, the newer term alibata was introduced by Dean Paul Versoza of the University of Manila. He claims the term comes from alif, ba, and ta, the first three letters of the Maguindanao arrangement of the Arabic letters. He did not explain why he chose a totally unrelated writing system to name the script.

The Tagalog script was a syllabary, which means that each symbol represents a complete syllable. This is in contrast to our Latin alphabet where each symbol represents a phoneme, the smallest unit of the sound of speech. It is this distinction that makes it difficult for many people steeped in alphabetic systems to understand the correct way of using the Tagalog script. (By Hector Santos)

(I found these pretty cool, imagine if we're still using these today?)
